Mostly, I wanted to get rid of that white streak and crop in a bit closer to the subject. So, first I used the transform function in PS7 to rotate the image so that the cat was sitting more upright rather than slouching to one side. Then I got to use the crop tool to crop out the white empty spaces left by the rotation. This also got rid of a lot of the white streak and framed the cat's face better. The leftover areas of the white streak were removed with the clone tool. Cloning was also used (rather obviously  ) on the left ear to lessen the effect of the white streak there.

Then it was on to a general levels adjustment to add a bit of snap and finishing off with some unsharp mask at about 130/0.4/3.

The cropping might have come out a bit tighter on the bottom edge than I would have liked, but that image rotation was pretty serious and forced a heavy crop.

Good picture but I thought the eyes needed some color.

Here's my take ... I used the same approach as Grant re. rotating the image + the crop, I copied and flipped the cats left ear onto a new layer dragged it into place then flattened the image before cloning out the black bar at the top of the ear so it wasn't obvious. I've boosted saturation a little, and done a size increase. ... Jack

Same with the ear. Sharpened the eyes and used a Curves adjustment to enhance them.
Local contrast enhancement to Bob & darkened the background somewhat ;-)

That's one very handsome cat. Here's my effort, using Photoshop Elements2.

I don't have time to work on the ears because my wife's calling me for supper.
