Default Knock yourself out...

This photo was taken a while ago.. and as i'm a newbie at slr and photoshop.. am wondering what other people would do with this photo to make it semi-decent. :P Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Clearly the important part of this shot is the foreground ie. beach, buildings etc. so to emphasise the foreground I added a curves adjustment layer, and boosted the brightness overall, but particularly to the mid range colours, since I only wanted to boost the foreground at this stage I filled the layer mask with black, which in effect removes the changes I made, then to apply the change to foreground only I painted with white on the mask in the foreground area only with a largish soft brush. Later I boosted overall contrast with another curves adjustment layer, before applying some slight hipass sharpening. Not a lot more you can do with a low res file. ... attached is a before and after, perhaps this will give you ideas to work on the original. ... Jack

thanks for attempting to do something with this pic. I can really see the difference. I know it was pretty poor quality ( I had no idea how to use my slr at that point) so thank u so much for taking the time to work on it and giving me some editing tips. Really appreciate it

You're welcome !. ... with hindsight it would probably help to boost the saturation a little too.
Incidentally in your other post that I replied to, I should have mentioned that I used the shadow/highlights filter to get more detail into the darker areas. ... Jack

I like this photo, here's my edit(with PSE 7). Used color replacement tool on the sky and greenery and adjusted sharpness.
The crop is just a strech to bring that line into the corner.
