Try scanning at a higher resolution, which will give you a larger file size, and make for slightly easier restoration.
Anyway, here is my take on it. In spite of you being Infantry.

Brian, thanks for the time and effort, you did very well considering what there is to work with (and despite my being Infantry). I feel blessed that any of you would take your time to try to fix this picture. Yours is the most "pleasing" to my eye.

NOW--What have you got against the infantry???LOL

Sorry to offend you..I didn't mean to. We are about the same age, and I was just making an joke about that.

I did think you'd see the humor in it, but I was wrong..sorry..

Littlejohn, I accept your apology. It was 2:30 am here, I was just about to go to bed, when your post came up. It struck me the wrong way, and I reacted. That's not like me. Please accept MY aology for making those off-the-cuff remarks, and we can move on from here...

Nothing, really, just you used to dirty up the floor of my Huey when I took you for a ride.

brian

edit: Thanks for the kind remarks about my edit. Mostly, I used the clone tool set to a small radius, and about 50% transparent, converted to monochrome, then added some film grain to sort of even things out, a touch of gaussian blur (0.5 radius), stepped up the contrast, and then a small amount of unsharp mask to make up for the blur. I did notice, after I posted it, that I had left a light spot on your cheek, and didn't completely remove the streaks. Sometimes, though, I tend to go a bit too far, so thought I would stop before I changed your face around completely and you ended up looking like Bob Hope.
