Default Old Vietnam Pic

Well, this is my first time on this forum, and I need to know truthfully if I am banging my head against the wall on this one. You can tell me, I can take it... Anyway, this is a photo of my "point man" and me(I am on the right, wearing the web gear). Taken sometime in 1970, at Camp Evans, Northern I Corps in the Republic of Vietnam. I am twenty years old here. The photo is an old polaroid, and you can see the chemical streaks across my face and elsewhere. Can this be saved? I have tried in PSE with mixed results. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to give this a shot!

I'm going to give it a try. It will take some time.

There is really not much one can do...age is age. There is no way someone is going to be able to make you look like that 20 year old.

Its such an extreme make over that even Opra wouldn't tackle it.

Are you trying to be funny? Then book yourself on the Oprah show. I don't need your snide remarks, please just disappear and stay off this thread.

Hi Robert, I'm the wrong person to attempt this so not even going to try, but if you have a link to a larger version that the clever people can have a play with then you might be pleasantly surprised.

I gave it a try, but it is beyond my skills. Having been drafted in 67, I get why you would want this one back. Try this link and look at their samples www.fixingphotos.com. I would pay to have this one done. Below is what is possible from an amature.

Pboerger, thank you for the attempt. A very good one, better than mine by a stretch. Thanks for the link as well, I will look at that in more detail.

Hi, Mark, the original is nearly the same resolution as this one posted. I may be able to re-scan at a different size and make it better, but I am not sure how all this scanning stuff works LOL.

Don't ask me, I've not scanned anything in anger for over 10 years LOL.

I have quite a few of these kinds of photos as well. The clear coat that came with Polaroid B&W film tended to smear when you rubbed it over the film. Some of mine are unrecoverable.
Try scanning at a higher resolution, which will give you a larger file size, and make for slightly easier restoration.
Anyway, here is my take on it. In spite of you being Infantry.
