Badly overexposed, totally blown highlights. This was the last picture (of 560)taken on my vacation, and I don't know what the hail happened. I've already salvaged it somewhat, and will post that later. You guys try your hand at it.

This is interesting - almost otherworldly.

Digcamfan, your second post appears to have nothing in it (or am I just not waiting long enough?)

Two very similar treatments to expound on the ethereal feel (for me):

Vito,as you guessed, that was the only shot taken. The shuttle bus was leaving and I was rushed, but still surprised that the image was that bad.

digcamfan, when I first saw this thing I was reminded of a B-grade sci-fi, post Armageddon movie from the '50's or '60's. I think your version nails that image spot on.

monkey, I know the feeling of which you speak. It's what attracted me to this dessicated shrub in the first place. I like your first effort better, and am encouraged to attempt some serious reclamation in PSE2.

The only thing I've done so far is a lazy, one click application of a "glow in the dark" effect. Reminds me of an old "black light" poster.

Cheers

Here are two additional versions for your comments...

My personal preference is for the B&W image on top, but I find the soft and hard color contrasts in the bottom image interesting.

This image reminds me of a dead tree I photographed at the North Rim about 7 or 8 years ago.

Freefly, that's an amazing amount of detail that you were able to find or create in this shot. Good job. I certainly wouldn't kick a print of that off of the wall.

Delos, I like the b&w version better, too. That seems to be the way to go with this picture, and will be the avenue that I explore in trying to get something worthy to print. I like this shot too much to just write it off. BTW, this was the south rim, at Yaqui Point.
