Thanx to all who responded.I guess I'll have to try more than the "quick fix" available in PS Elements 2.0.

ok...here's my try....

went for a different effect...

i changed the levels for the stump and background on two layers..and merged them all together and used a Gaussian blur technique i was pointed to by Rod a while ago at

www.luminous-landscape.com

hope you like it

This is really nice, Vito - soft, but still sharp. I'd like to see that green a little richer and darker - it's a little too lime-y for me but that's just me. I like it!

This is definately lots of fun. But I keep forgetting this forum has been added, and for some reason, I am not getting email notifications of new posts to this thread.
Monkey, if this forum was your idea, it was a great one. Actually it's great even if it's not yours.

Ron, it is a great idea! It was brtsergio's and everyone here voted it in. Vito volunteered to moderate it. I was the data gatherer and messenger to Steve, so I somehow ended up being a moderator, too!:-)Glad you're having fun.

Have you selected "watch topic" in the main forum choices? Not sure how to do that, because I'm certain my buttons are different than yours. I get emails when there's anything posted.
