I need some help darkening the sky, which was really not this color (duh). I want the little lights that are glowing to still have a nice halo effect around them, but the sky should be darkened to a realistic level of black. It is not really black in this area, but more like a dark charcoal. Also there were clouds.

Is this closer to what you want. I did a histogram adjustment. I set the low to 16, gamma to .60, and high to 255. The problem with shooting night shots in automatic is that the meter will try to make the image equivalent to 18% gray. In night shots this causes the image to be too light. You need to use exposure compensation of about -1.0 or set the exposure manually.
