Photo_mage !!!!

What tools did you use to select the car ?

The eye dropper or the magic wand?, and how long did it take you to do it ?

I'm almost ready to lose my mind on this one !!!

Actually, I used the magnetic lasso tool. Just trace the edges of the areas you want to change the color of with the tool. Then I did some touch-ups to the mask using the quick mask tool and a small brush. By switching between black and white for your foreground color, you can add or subtract from the mask. It only took about 20 minutes or so.

just for fun my attempt, although I guess it is too late.

I painted the car red, set the layer mode to color and adjusted saturation/hue and shadows/lights for the coloured layer.

I decided to have a little fun. I figured your wife may as well have an upgrade at the same time. So I drove away the old car and delivered a new one. But sill had to do the recolor..I could not find a red one I liked so I took the one below and swapped it.

Wow. You did a great job there Creeduk. You can even see the bushes through the windscreen. Nice work. Im afraid to show this to my wife. She might want a real upgrade. It sure looks good in our driveway though. Maybe I should take out a loan. Hehe.
