This is what I did with a similar photo as the other I posted using photoshop 5 a few years ago. Considering an upgrade to CS but I would like to see what folks can do with it before I go there. The original was taken with a Fuji DS300 Pro (1.3mp) in the fine jpg mode.

Hi JS,

This looks pretty okay to me (I know zilch about trains).....

I've only got Elements, but a pal of mine with CS says she can dovery subtlethings with'straight' pixto increase tonal range, by superimposing 2 exposures, and fiddling. The quality of this fiddling in the CSprog she says isparticularly good. For this alone I think it would be great.

Canna.

Canna,

Thanks. Since I posted those pics I've decided against upgrading for now. Both require me to also upgrade my op system to XP which would add another $100 to the cost. I was considering Elements 3 but same situation. Just spent all the spare change on a camera so software upgrades will have to wait.

If you want to play with it and show what Elements will do, there's an unmodified version of a similar one here..

Canna,

It's interesting you used the word BASH.. The locomotive is a model of one used on the Wabash Railroad here in midwestern USA. My grandfather worked for the railroad until 1972 but by then it had been taken over by the Norfolk and Western along with several others in the region.. I know you probably aren't familiar with them but I thought it might be interesting..

I like it..

Hi Jeff,

Those old railroads (all round the world) are a monument tolongevity under pressure. They've a lot to teach today's manufacturers...

Meant to say by the way how very much I like your avatar. What a lovely dog - and he looks great on that bright grass.

abw, Canna.

Ah yes painful 7 runs on ME and has most of the things CS has. The great healing brush, the browser (not as efficient as CS but there) and a host of additions you would enjoy coming from 5
