The thread about making color from B&W reminded me of this pic of me from a few years back. (OK, 50 and a couple) Using a much earlier versionof Photoimpact, I added a bit of color (colour, for the commonwealth folk :-)) Didn't have any fancy tools, so just used airbrush with a bit of hue and sat adjustments. As I recall, I only used about three basic colors.

Anyway, if anyone wants to have a go, feel free.

Here's my effort Brian. Used BlackMagic-Color

There is a ten day trial with limitations, but seems to work pretty good !

What a cute little boy!

Thanks for the tip about Magic-Color. Since either way the colours are not going to look "original", then I suppose any program or paint shop will do.

I have old photos that were colourized orginally in the early '40's and they weren't true colour photos anyway.

Both of you did a great job on this shot,
Rose

I guess so Rose. But using MagiColor is the easier way, it seems, as it gives you a menu of 'materials' to choose from, then you select a colour.

I quote the helpfile : In BlackMagic, you do not normally pick individual colours to paint (though you can), as you would need to in some other painting software packages - instead, you simply choose the type of object that you desire to paint from the pop-up menu; BlackMagic dynamically and automatically tunes the colour variations, depending upon the image area you want to paint, and the object type that you select.

This can be done with selections or by hand.

No, I'm not trying to 'sell' the product, but it does make the job a lot easier. You don't have to worry about Blend modes either, as it 'paints' without hiding/destroying the detail.

Rose;

I still look just like that. :-)OK, maybe a little taller.

Steve;

That is downright great. If my memory stretched that far, I would probably say that is just what it looked like.
