Hi, I'm new to this forum and just getting interested in digital photography. I love this photo, but I think it's too dark. Is there a way to lighten it up without making it look washed out? Any feedback would be appreciated!

I used Photoshop Elements 2 to -

1. add some brightness & contrast

2. crop it to get rid of the distracting items in the background

3. sharpen it a bit with Unsharp Mask &

4. enlarge it.

Then I used Neat Image to smooth out the graininess that showed up after it was enlarged.

Finally I went back to PSD Elements used the lassoo tool to enclose just the eyes & surrounding parts, and applied more UM sharpening to give the eyes extra sparkle.

I've adjusted the eyes a bit more.

Used the Shadow/Highlights tool in CS2, and removed a slight yellow cast.
No sharpening to the image as it is too small a file/low resolution, to do anything with.
