Actually there is not so much industrial pollution in the city proper per se because of an edict from Jiang Ze Ming (later President) & then enforced by Zhu Rong Ji (later Premier) & their successors, when they were mayors of Shanghai (late eighties / early nineties), which forced all factories to relocate outside of the city limits within 10 years - so now there is no industry whatsoever downtown, all relocated to industrial zones. Downtown is all commercial / retail / residential.

We get plenty of sunshine (with temps regularly between 35 & 42C in Summer) however downtown the traffic is so congested that usually that is what creates the pollution. Cityscape shots are not great in Summer though, or when temperatures are high, because of the very high humidity diminishing visibility.
