DxOMark objective test results show that the D7200 and D500 perform similarly with respect to noise (SNR 18%) and dynamic range, where their ranges overlap. The big difference is that the D500 has a broader ISO range, going up to 1640000, while the D7200 maxes out at 102400. The D500 doesn't perform well at those higher ISOs, but it does perform.
