Hi All,
We've been on the road a lot lately with little time to play online, but I wanted to check in with all my friends and say hello!
This photo of a juvenile male Red-naped Sapsucker (RNSA) was taken yesterday near Powderhorn, Colorado. The chestnut-red of his throat and crown were particularly well developed for such a young bird (probably about 5 weeks after fledging). We caught 14 RNSA this past weekend, and I'll tell you, they are real biters with very sharp claws. Spunky birds and a favorite of mine. We also caught and banded 56 other songbirds and 77 hummingbirds of three species, great fun. We're off to another area of Colorado on Wednesday. Cheers,
Hummer
