This is a very common question so i will give you the quick answer. If the majority of the photographic work you will be doing will be telephoto...for example...bird watching or other nature photography then ALWAYS go for the zoom over the megapixels. However, once you back off the zoom, the megapixels quickly overtake the lens as the most important factor.
