Thanks for the comment and I look forward to seeing your pics. Generally I try expose for the sun and then lighten the land/sea with photoshop. Its far easier correcting underexposure then overexposure. Another thing you can try is set your camera on a tripod and use bracketing to take 3 pics at different exposures and then combine them inPS.
