Jim-

There is a lot of truth in your post. However, until we really understand the basic underlying photographic knowledge/principles, our photos are going to be less than we really desire, we don't know why, we become frustrated, and end up taking fewer photos. In short, the learning just dwindles away.

Build yourself a good background, and then you will find the learning experience a good deal easier, and you are reallying enjoying taking all those photos.
