I just got a Canon XTI and would like some advice on how to take pictures of my home theater room with a 540EZ flash. So far my results are washed out but I am somewhat overwelmed with all the settings.
-> This is because the EZ series flashes are not compatible with any digital camera - They will all fire full-blast !!!
(i.e. you need the new EX's series)

Your best bet is not to use the flash at all, but do as JohnG suggested to use lower shutter speed of 1/15s or less on a tripod - This has the added bonus of getting rid of the scan lines on your home theater... Flip the camera to manual and adjust the EV scale -2..-1..v..+1..+2 so it center on the v with the shutter and aperture
