And John, in answer to your question, soccer is one of the few sports in which the position of the player is irrelevant in determining boundary questions. To be "into touch" or "out of bounds," the entire ball must cross the touch line, or side line. Thus, the player could actually be completely over the line and the ball still be in play as long as the ball doesn't cross.
