The Ospreys were quite high and with 840mm at the end of the camera was difficult to find and focus.

I quickly learned that I had to zoom out to 80mm, acquire and lock focus on the bird and then zoom in and shoot quickly before I lost him. Once I took a shot and the mirror cycled I then had lost the bird and had to start over going back to 80mm and re- zooming to 840mm.

My camera was on a homemade "bush hawk" type device that made it easier to hold steady and pan with the bird.

I tried to follow one in a dive but could only record the splash after the bird had entered the water. These eagles are amazing to watch.
