Just a quick qestion, i have a canon A70 and have seena wide angle lens (0.5x) but it has a 49mm thread with step up ring to 52mm (to fit my camera. is this a good idea??

It depends on the lens. that is a small enough step I would think you would be fine though. The only problem it could really cause is vinyetting but once again that is a pretty small step. What lens is it and does it say it is compatible with the a70?
