In the olden days (Nikon Nikkormat FTN), I occasionally used a telextender between my lens andcamera body. I knew I'd loose somespeed and sharpness.

If I use an add-on lens (in front of my Canon G3's lens), will it also 'slow down' the lens?

Can I still zoom with an add-on lens, or do you recommend a wide-angle add-on be used only at minimum focal length, or a tele add-on only at max focal length?

The .7 factor of the Canon wide-angle add-on lens seems modest to me -- .6 would be preferable (.6 * 35 = ~ 21 mm equiv). I'd also like to reach out farther than 140 mm equiv. Other than the limited zoom range, I really like my G3 and plan to stick with it for quite a while.

Do any of you haveexperience with add-on lenses on a fixed-lens digital, especially a Canon 'G' (G2, G3, G5, G6)? Anyone heard/read good things about an add-on lens for a 'G'?
