I'm a Mass Communications student at UC Berkeley, and have recently begun dabbling in photojournalism. I'm wondering if anybody can recommend a telephoto lens for a broad range of uses, under $200, for my Olympus 2040.
Also, is there anything else that is considered a "must-have" when doing spot photography? Thanks in advance. [Edited on 7-30-2002 by gk] |

gk,
Olympus makes a 1.45 telephoto, but must be used with cam at full zoom. About $100 from computers4sure.com. Guess you already know shooting big, just under TIFF also gives the same effect as zoom as everything is larger, best way to get mmost out of zoom.Gary |

Will a 1.45x make much of a difference?
Also, I thought TIFF was just 1600x1200, but clearer than JPEG... |

I have a Tiffen 2x that I use with my C3000 and C4040. It's wonderful. You need to buy the Tiffen adapter, not the Olympus, due to a difference in clearance at the rear of the lens. You can only use it at the maximum focal length, or you get a circular image. Image quality is excellent.

I tried some old inexpensive wide angle and telephoto Koonica adapters that I had used on my film camera. They were quite passable.
Not so with digital! I had been told I would need to purchase these new expensive adapters because of the way light goes through the optics is different than on the old ones. It is true. As far as power, there are not that many choices, but there are some. I live in Chicago and we have Helix. They are very professional and have the latest stuff available.
