Hey guys
I own a DSC-W5 and i am thinking about buying the telephoto lense for it. It has a rating of 1.7X and i am trying to work out what the hell this means.

Does this mean my zoom increases from 3x (std) to 4.7x. If so thts a lot of money for a little differnece. $249.99 NZD. Or is it more than that.

If anyone has this cam or one of the dsc_w series can u plse post some images with and without the telel lense so i can get some idea what i will be gaining.

Some guy from Sony style told me that with the tele lense on my W5 i would almost get an image as close as the H1. i think hes on something.

Any help would be awesome

cheers

The 1.7 is a multiplier so you get 3x1.7 = 5.1 which is still not a lot. (Ihave an Olympus TCON-17 cost me $150 AUD). I also have an 8x multipler lens ($250) but the quality is no where near as good as the 1.7 lens - in other words quality zoom costs big dollars.

kenmck, I was wondering if you ever bought that lens. Or did you go with something else. What were your results? I am thinking of buying one also. I have the chance to pick one up for cheap $50USD.

sony hasa 2.6x tele converter compatible with W5:

it's a lot lighter and slimmer, and not bad in quality at all.
