I recently bought (10 months ago) a Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D which I love. I'd like to replace the 'kit' lens (18-70 3.5) with something better. I much more improved lens. Sort of an all-purpose lens.

I've been asking camera stores and searching online and not getting too much info to help and a lot of marketing talk.

I seem to have narrowed it down to something that is a 2.8 instead of the 3.5 that I have. I've been told that will yield 4 times more light and a faster lens; decrease distortion, etc.

At this point, I'm not sure
1) If it would help.
2) What brand name? Tokina, Sigma, etc....
3) Do I need 2 lenses?
4) Wait on Sony to come out with theirs and pay more for the name? I've heard that may happen, at least at first.

Any help would be very appreciated.
Thanks.

Mike
