Hi, all
I am glad I've found this forum, as I was this close to buying crappy lenses on ebay (opteka). I was wondering if anyone knew of good, but not too expensive, lenses for a fuji finepix s5200. Thanks! |

Fellow s5200 owner: I didn't notice that this forum even existed and asked something similar in the Fuji forum. People responded with what you might expect-- buy Fuji's own attachments, since they're optimized for the lens that Fuji designed. It's just a bit expensive.

Olympus's TCON17 is very good and it has a 55mm thread, so no adapter for S5xxx cameras is needed and it is slightly cheaper than the Fuji's lens. It is possible to buy cheaper 3rd party lenses, but the optical quality isn't as good as Oly and Fuji.

I just got the opteka 2x and wide anglefor the s5200 and I thought for the non pro they do a fair job. My problem with digital is in that it changes so quickly. My problem is trying to get a filter one person says its 72mm and another says 75mm. I ordered the 72 as we no longer have a camera shop within 100 miles.
I like the optekas but my only need for photos is to get ideas for painting. For family stuff the camera without the added lens does more than I need. Unless you get a $3000.00 Nikon you are not going to win many magazine jobs. It just depends on what your needs are compaired to your money. opteka is not the best but it's not bad for 30.00 and you can sell them later and trade inyour car for a camera lens that is is better than most dogs can hear.. I could show some results of my photos when I learn how to upload here as I am new. |

I found the following lens to be of good quality and much better
than the cheep Opteka lenses. Its a direct fit without any adapter. And it's reasonably priced. Schneider-Kreuznach Xenar 0.7x Wide Angle Lens 55mm Offered by Kodak. I don't think you can go wrong with this lens. |

agrees with pmaholch
I recently posted some sample pictures with the Kodak Schneider-Kreuznach (0.7 X WA and 1.4 X tele) on the Fuji S5200: http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/view_forum.php?id=16 |

This is an interesting observation.
The Schneider-Kreuznach Xenar 0.7x Wide Angle Lens 55mm Offered by Kodak is exactly the same lens as the Olypmus WCON-07 lens. Yup! They are identical except for the different packaging and brand name. You might be able to find the Olympus WCON-07 a few dollars cheaper. You may decide to purchase the Raynox 6600 pro because it has front filter threads while the kodak and olympus do not. If you purchase the Raynox because of the front threads ... the only filters that will work on these are the Hoya ultra thin 3mm filters. Otherwise you will have noticiable vignetting problems. |
