I'm about to buy a canon t3i but I'm on the fence about what lens or lenses to purchase.
I was considering buying a 60d buy decided that at this time the t3i better fits my needs, but with the 60d the kit lens is the canon 18-135 mm which I thought would be a nice focal range to satisfy most of my shooting needs (some landscapes, little bit of action, family pictures, general photography). The t3i is not currently offered with the 18-135mm as a kit lens. I'm trying to decide if I should only buy the body and pick up the 18-135 or buy the kit with the 18-55mm lens and buy another lens taking pictures of farther away pictures. I know the canon 18-135mm lens runs about $450 and would like to keep my cost around there, I think. I'm really just getting started, so I don't need the best. Any suggestions of lenses to consider? Thanks for your help. Last edited by tpcrider; Mar 8, 2011 at 3:32 PM. Reason: spelling |

Hi There - I cant really give you any great advice, but I have ordered and are waiting for the Canon EOS 600D to arrive. I purchased it with the 18-55ml lens kit from Amazon.fr I also ordered the 50ml lens. I looked around quite a bit on the internet and some places sell it as a kit with the 18-135ml kit others with the 18-55ml. No idea which country you are in, but Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.fr and Amazon.de all had it with these kit combinations and so did other french internet sellers. Hope this helps.

The 18-135 is an avg consumer lens. The better lens would be the ef-s 15-85. It is optically a lot better lens.

hi the 18-55 isn't a bad lens for a kit lens. IMHO you would be better getting a efs55-250is to go with it.

Just picked up a Tamron 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di-II, great all around lens and it is fixed @ 2.8. New for $500.00, used for $320.00 on Ebay.
