I am looking for suggestions for the best add-on lenses for a Sony 717. I am interested in getting a Wide-Angle and also a Telescope lens. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Olympus makes the best add-on lenses for the F707 & F717 IMHO!
TCON-14B is a tele lens, 62mm thread, 1.7 MCON-35 is a macro, 62mm thread B300 is the best tele, but you have to fabricate your own mount. See Olympus' website for me details. The MCON-35 is discontinued but can be found on eBay. I shoot with the 14B and the 35. |

Music Dwarf,
what do you mean by "fabricate your own mount" for B300? It has 55mm thread and 58/55 adaptor is all you need. You'll need adaptors for other two lenses as well. B300 is also discontinued as well, but it's still available from http://www.eagleeyeuk.com/ Do you know by any chance if there's a way to make manual focus on F717 to work with tele lense? Sergey |

Understanding that Olympus lenses are the best, what's the deal with the Digital/Crystal/Professional Optics "Titanium" lenses advertised with most online etailers? Just adding not-so-good extras at inflated prices to recover from deflated camera prices? Are they any good in quality?

I tried out a canon wd-58, made for camcorders, with my F717 and really liked it. I've put the picture I took on my web site:
www.stevehanphoto.com/Download/Dsc3022.jpg. Does anyone have any thoughts about this lense? |

On the Olympus tele converters mentioned: The B-300 1.7x was made for Olympus fixed lens 35mm cameras and works very well. It has a 55mm thread on the ocular and no threads on the objective for filters. Excellent optics.
The TCON-14B has a 62mm ocular thread, 1.45x factor and is a wonderful, but extremely heavy lens made for the E10/E20 olympus cameras. The TCON-300 3x was made for the Olympus E10/E20, has no filter threads on the ocular side and must be mounted on anything other than the Olympus E10/E20 by fabricating a mount. It comes with a mount which fits the E10/E20. Also the lens must be focused independently of the camera (not a fixed focus adapter). Several other excellent Olympus tele lenses are available - but these are the best of the lot. Lin |
