I am trying to understand what the main difference is between a standard macro lens (50mm) and a medium telephoto macro lens (100mm) both having F2.8.
I am talking about the main differences while using them for macro photography. What are the advantages or disadvantages of using one versus the other? Again I am talking just about macro photography. Personally at this time I would chose the 100mm one, but I still want to hear other opinions. |

The difference between the 50 and the 100 is the working distance...
To get the same size ratio you have to get closer to the object with a 50mm than with a 100mm - sometime this can scare the critter away. Also with more distance the lighting is also easier! I use a Sigma 150mm EX macro which allows me to use a camera mounted flash intead of all the fancy macro lighting: ![]() http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/v...amp;forum_id=7 |
