I am in the process of trying to find a telephoto lens for my Canon G5 so that I can take some documentary/street photography. I am currently living in Norway and have found some lenses on eBay but am not too sure about the quality and such. Can anyone point me in the right direction on finding a place to order one or tell me which kind that I might need (2 x, 2.5 x or 3.0 x) I am really not too sure which one would be wise for me and my use. As I said I am using it to take pictures of people around the city where I live but I dont really want to get all up in their faces to do so. :|

Many of the ones on Ebay going by brand names like "Crystal Optics, "Digital Optics", "Opteka" are garbage. Here's a good brand of lenses (showing examples of lenses on the camera, and pictures taken with/without the lens on):

Canon's own lens for the G5 is good but quite expensive. It is 1.7X which combined with the camera's own 4X zoom gives a total magnification of just under 7X. You will need an adapter. Canon have not madeone in black but use the silver one left over from the G3. You will do better to get one from Lensmate http://www.lensmateonline.com/g3.html
The also have sample pics on their site of the different acvaliable lenses. |
