Steves
I called it Nikon 'philosophy' since they've been doing it with the 5000 (and Olympus previously) for attaching filters and auxilliary lenses. It actually work out good for the utra wide angle aatachment that the D7(i) doen't have even though this camera has a filter thread, since you'll run into vignetting. Beside theses devices also generate revenue for the dealers as well, bringing in more traffic to the stores... [Edited on 7-19-2002 by NHL] |

It also limit the zoom ratio, and add extra weight to the front of the camera (very un-balanced on my 990). I still question Nikon about this approach... (they come up with a locking mechanism on the 995)
