However, you CAN use a SLR lens on a lens converter using reverse-mounting. In this way, you have a reasonably good macro system. To do so, the on-camera lens, with lens converters possibly, must have a focal length equal to or larger than the SLR lens. For example, the Coolpix 5000 lens has the maximum focal length 21.4mm. Adding the TC-E2 2X converter will make the combo to have a focal length of 2*21.4 = 42.8. If you reverse-mount a SLR lens of focal length x, the magnification is 42.8/x. For example, if the 60mm Micro Nikkor is used, the magnification is 42.8/60 = 0.7X. If you use a 50mm normal lens instead, the magnification is 42.8/50 = 0.86X which is higher than that of the micro Nikkor. Another possible use is to add a scope converter to the micro Nikkor making it a 60/10 = 6X scope. Then, digiscoping technique can use this scope along with your 5000 making the combined focal length about 21.4*6 = 128.4mm (504mm, 35mm equivalent). Hope this answers your question.
