Anyone have or tried the Sigma 50-500mm. I have to admit that after only having my F717 for about 6 months, I'm putting together my next camera. I'm looking at the Sigma because of its wide focal range, that would only require one other lens to cover the wide angle portion. Thanks!

Luckily it fits Nikon, Canon, Sigma, and Pentax!!!! Give me a wide choice of cameras--however, I'm focusing in on the Nikon D70.

If the Nikon SLR Lens section doesn't have any comments about it, check out the Canon SLR & Canon SLR Lens areas. This lens has been talked about there a lot.
If you can get over it's weight and small aperture (f6.3 @ 500mm) it is a surprisingly good lens. Of course, this assumes the Canon & Nikon versions are the same. This isn't always true. Eric |

The Sigma 50-500mm is an excellent lens for any dSLR except a full frame like the Canon EOS-1DS or Kodak DCS-14N where it tends to vignette. But with the 1.3x to 1.7x reduced field of view, it provides tack sharp images throughout the full zoom range.
