I can not recommend a specific WA lens, as I don't have use for them for my purposes. However, I will caution you: The Sony F828's telescoping lens was not designed to support add-on lenses. You can mount and use them, but depending on the weight of the add-on lens used, you can potentially damage the zoom lens. Since the zoom lens will be retracted when using a wideangle, the stress will not be as high as when using a teleconvertor. Be careful not to set the camera down with the wide angle lens attached, since the large barrel of the wide angle lens will cause additinal stress to the telescopiong zoom assembly.

Did your father get the lens? I just ordered the DCS-F828 and am considering W-A and tele-converter lenses.
I note the warning by another member about adding weight to the end of the built-in lens. Any problem? However, Sony says that the following lenses are for the previous models, DCS-707 and DCS-717: VCL-HGD0758 - WA VCLHGD175 - tele |

Thanks for the replys! I discussed using a Wideangle with a tech at Sony and he didn't have problem using it..so I should have one (Sony) here shortly and will let you know how it works out..I figured for a measly 114.00 it was worth a try..if it doesn't I have a Mavica FD92 that it will work on..and lastly I did get their close up lens..works quite well

Has anybody looked at or tried the Sony vcl-mgh07a wide angle lens with the f828? It appears to be a lot smaller and lighter than the one for the earlier f717. It looks to cost around $100+. It is also .7 which would bring it down from 28 to 19.6, just about what I would need to shoot QTVR panoramas. The f828 is looking better all the time, but I do need to do the panoramas.

If you are still looking for a wideangle lens for the Sony 828 then I reccommend you try the DCR-FE180PRO Fish-Eye(Full Frame) Lens
from Raynox. www.raynox.co.jp Their build quality is superb and the lens are excellent. I have several Raynox lens for different makes and models of pro-sumer cameras and thats the beauty of these lens.... you can interchange with most cameras. Although the DCR-FE180PRO Fish-Eye(Full Frame) Lens is named as a fish-eye, I can guarentee it will give you a near 180 degree wideangle shot when used with this camera. |
