I have this lens for my Canon 20D and it's the lens which lives on the camera. It is a terrific walk-around lens, great for a wide variety of shots from typical snapshots to really good portrait framing. Remember that with the 1.6 crop factor, the wider end is just about what a film camera's 50mm lens shows.

The f2.8 is a constant through the entire zoom range so it makes this lens wonderful for lots of different lighting situations to keep the ISO lower and still not have to use flash. It is very crisp in the middle to high apertures and is still very excellent at f2.8 but slightly softer than when stopped down a couple of stops.

it's a bit heavy, but it is solidly built and really is a terrific all-purpose lens.
