depense on how much money you want to spend

a couple hundred will get you a Raynox 2X

a hundred or so will get you a TCON 1.7X

under that it's been hit and miss
some work, some dont

finding one in 55mm is even harder
you may have to use a step ring
either down to 52mm or up to 58mm

I purchased the Kodak Z740 back in June. Last week I added the TCON 1.7X. We have has so much rain and humidity that I have not had the opportunity to try it out. Hoping it will be clear tonight so I can try the TCON out on the moon. The TCON will mount on the Kodak 45.5 - 55mm adapter.

Herschel, There's been a lot of folks using the TCON-17, and so far no complaints. I've got one and wouldn't trade it for the world. Saves these old legs from too much walking. Only suggestion I have is to get a good tripod and use it with the TCON. The lens movement is considerable and will give you a blurry shot!!!

Dawg,

I took your advice and purchased the TCON and tripod from BH Photo. The problem I have with the TCON is living in these "darn hills". It is difficult to get a long distance shot. At least I 'll have it in case I see any UFO'S!

Know what you mean Herschel!! About 25 yrs. ago I lived over in West Limestone County in a place called Mary Davis Hollow. At night the sky looked like a small circle overhead. You could see the sun for about 2 hrs. or so. But if you got up on top of those hills there was a pretty view across the holler!!

hi herschel

Excuse me if I butt in...

You don't want the TCON-17C (that's with a "C" on the end.) This model has a bayonet mount for specific Olympus cameras. You want the plain ol' vanilla TCON-17.

That said, I think the TCON-17 is an excellent lens. I have its predecessor, the B-300, and have found it to work well with my now ancient Oly C-730. Here're a couple of shots from ealier this year using the B-300 -

You can see the full size shots buried in myFlickr web page below.

I think you'll find it a nice addition.
