I think that the OP would like manufacturers to give numbers like they do with binoculars: "FOV 35' at 100 yards."

I'm guessing that it is a cultural thing. Serious photographers know what lens they need to accomplish what they want to do. They understand optics and f-stops and ASA and lumen and do all sorts of calculations in their heads. Binocular users generally just know that they want little things to look big.

For the record, I'm not a serious photographer or ever a half-serious photographer. I have good ideas but if they turn out well, it is usually by accident.
