what do you think of the uv filters for protecting your lens etc..does that degrade the picture in anyway

You are bringing up a subject that causes lots of arguments on both sides that rival political or religous debates.

On one side we have the "protect the front element people". Just watch for flare when shooting into a light source.

On the other side we have the "no cheap glass in front of my expensive lenses" crowd. The lens hood will protect the front element. Polarizers, neutral density or graduated neutral density filters is all they will tolerate.

Personally, I've had to replace a UV filter that got scuffed by an impact. I opted for the UV as physical protection but got better quality Hoya S-HMC filters. Your milage may vary.

thanks,, just about what I supected... I have the Tiffen filter...will test with and without and see what that looks like.

I have a Tiffen filter too but haven't bother to test. Let us know how your tests turn out.

ok .,just did a quick test.. flash inside up close shot.. no filter was best..you could clearly see the sharper more depth in detail..only a quick test.. will do more in the am
