I think I recently read that with Macros you should use manual focus, not auto. I don't remember why exactly but I think it had to do with the camera not always focusing where you want it to focus.

it'sa lot harder to focus when you're zoomed in so close on something, and that's my fz5's downfall, im always having to move the camera after i AF to get it into focus

You have any snow where you live?
Snowflakes seem very fun to capture at extreme macro.....I'll probably try do that if I can get hold of a DCR-250 here in Sweden, and before the snow melts...
Did some tries with the camera as is, and its pretty fun, but would need much more magnification.

Also, must be cool to capture an ant closeup. Maybe placing a nice green leaf nearby some ants and a very small piece of food (sugar or bread or similar) on the leaf, focus on it, and just wait for one of the ants to arrive and carry it away, while bursting away pictures. The green leaf would serve as a clean smooth background. Thats one of the plans I have for the summer anyway, if I get a lens
