Yep i probably should buy a filter to protect my lens but after reading plenty of reviews who explain about the quality loss , i`m now not so convinced anymore.

Many say that for optimum protection without any quality loss it`s adviced to just have the lens hood on all the time (maybe not indoors).

I`ve always had filters on my lenses in the past and i never compared the quality with them on and off and i must say i probably wouldn`t see the difference or would i ?

What should i do ? :?

I`m very carefull with my equipment so i would never risk to hit the lens somewhere or would i leave scratches on it but i`m more worried about sand storms , dust and even water.

Here is a pic of my lens with a Sigma filter on , i sold these last year and guess what i just bought the same lens again but should i buy the same filter again ? or are there better filters which will give me better quality results ?

OhOh a Holy-war type question :G

It is really up to you!
If you do not see any image quality issues with using a UV filter and it makes you feel safer they I'd say use one.
But use a high quality fully mulit-coated one if you do.

So what do you think of this filter (the one on my lens) ?
Is it highly rated ? you know of any better ones ?

I have 2 Sigma filters a 105mm circular polarizer and a 105mm UV.

The polarizer is very good!
I only use the UV when it is needed, not for protection so it is raraly used.
It does seem to be a good filter.

Other brands of filters I use that seem to be very good are B+W and "Hoya Pro 1 Super HMC"

There are lots of other brands I have never used, so hard to comment on them:-)
