Hi! I'm thinking of buying wide angle converter lenses for my Powershot S3 IS. Problem is, the Canon Marketing branch where I come from won't answer calls, so I thought of buying the Sony 58mm VCL-DH0758 instead. I was just wondering if I can use it with my S3 IS? And if I can, does it need a lens adapter, like the Canon WC-DC58A? And I don't need a step-up ring for it, right? And can I use a lens hood and filters with it? (Sorry for all my questions. It's just that I'm purchasing online or through phone so I want to be really sure of everything.) Thank you!

The DH0758 is an excellent wide angle lens for the S3. Yes it needs an adapter.

No, you can't use filters or hoods. It is not threaded and even if it was the filters would be HUGE and probably cost more than the lens.

Camerafilters.com has the 58mm adapter for $12. It works great.

They also sell wide angle lens adapters.

I'm also looking for a wide-angle lens for my S3. I was reading some reviews and it seems the Raynox DCR-730 is a more powerful, better quality, and less expensive than the Canon equivalent. Which of all these lenses has the least barrel distortion? If you don't know, do you know how I can find out; and where can I find comparison pics?

Thanks!
Another newbie,
Dana
