Hello;

Does anyone know which size filter will actually attach to the camera lens itself?
The lens face is threaded. However, a 37mm filter is slightly too small - and a 40.5mm slightly too large.

I do have the CLA-10 adapter and filters to fit (those are 52mm), but unless in full zoom mode - you get vignetting (sp?) when using the adapter. :-(

I desperately want to be able to protect the lens with something (probably a UV filter) when I am choosing not to use the adapter and its filters.

Does anyone else have this camera, and have they found which filter will actually fit the lens? I am thinking maybe a 39mm size - but I do not have one to try for fit and neither do any of the camera stores in this area. My only other option would be to purchase one online and have to return it if it did not fit.

Help, please?

Perhaps some kind soul would take their 39mm filter and physically try it on one of these sp-550 cameras at a store and let me know if it fits? *hopeful grin*

TIA,
~Tiger

I'm surprised you didn't ask this in the Oly forum where there are actual 550 users.

If the main purpose is to attach a UV filter to protect the lens I'd suggest that you really don't need a filter to protect the lens. With just reasonable precautions (brush the dust away before doing any other cleaning) the likelyhood of scratching the lens before the rest of the camera is completely worn out is remote. I have 30 year old lenses (before multi-coating) that are not scratched in any way. Modern multi-coating puts an extremely hard anti-scratch coating on as the final coating on the objective lens.

I actually looked in the oly forum before posting here. And I saw the same question several times - with the same response - "get the CLA-10 and put that on the camera". Well, I did do that. And I think the CLA-10 will be great - when the lens is fully extended. My concern is when I am not exending the lens that there is nothing on the actual lens itself to protect it. Perhaps I am just a worry wart, but I belive in better being safe, rather than sorry.

There are a couple of ways to fit filters to the SP550. I have this..

There's also a telescoping tube made by another after-market company, here...
