Just bought a Sony HDR HC7, and I need to purchase a wide angle lens extension for indoor walk-throughs for real estate sales videos.

The Sony lens retails for about $360, which is pretty expensive for a screw-in extension.

As I recall, the Sony lens is 0.7, which tells me very little.

I was searching for aftermarket lenses, and found a pair of Cokin lenses that will fit. The wide angle lens is 0.5 magnification. The telephoto is 2.O. And the price for the pair is $150, compared to $720 for similar in the Sony brand.

Can anyone tell me if Cokin lenses are okay? And is 0.5 even wider than 0.7?? Or less wide?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure about the quality of Cokin lenses. Their filters have a good reputation. As far as the focal length multiplier is concerned, a 0.5 is going to be wider than a 0.7.

Simply take the wide angle focal length of the existing lens on your camera eg. 35mm and multiply it by the factor quoted by the add-on lens manufacturer. Thus a 35mm lens is going to have its focal length modified to 17.5mm by the 0.5 lens and 24.5mm by the 0.7 lens.

Thanks Ron. I was thinking the maths you mentioned.

I'm gonna take a chance on the Cokin lenses.
