Default 8x/10x/12x Cameras vs. 1.7x Tele ???

With 8x/10x/12x cameras I hear many good comments about several 1.4x to 1.7x add-on teleconverter lenses and mixed comments about a 1.85x lens.

I hear no good comments for higher magnifications. They all seem to suffer problems of murky images, vignetting, CA, purple fringing, etc...

If you have an 8x/10x/12x camera what teleconverter lenses have you tested and do you have test images for them that you can share?

Thanks.

I'm running an Olympus B-300 (predecessor to the TCON-17) on my C-730. An excellent combination, if I do say so myself. (Unfortunately, I'm taking a quick lunch break and don't have any photos here at work.)

Check Pemaraal On-line ( http://www.b-300.com/compare8.html ) for some comarison pictures using an Oly -2100 with the TCON-17 and Sony 1540 Pro telephoto adaptors. Both the TCON and Sony appear to take excellent pictures.

If your looking for greater magnification, you may want to start at Eagle Eye Optics ( http://www.eagleeyeuk.com/erol2eu/erol.html ). They have so very good information on digiscoping.

Yes, and it seems the digiscoping camera of choice is the Coolpix 99x or 4500 with that small lens. Other low-zoom cameras will also work -- but not the 8x/10x/12x cameras.

If 12x should do for you the choice is simpel, no convertor but Image Stabilisation and you can leave your tripod home!
FZ2 or FZ10 (depending on your budget) is your choice

Oh no, I'm asking what a FZ1/FZ2/FZ10 owner can ADD ON for even more magnification.

Yes, that is a nice mockingbird shot. I have a TCON17 on order. What I am curious about is whether there is any current lens providing good results on a 8x/10x/12x camera with a magnification of ... more than... 1.7x. Thanks.

UZI using TCON-14 stacked with B300/TCON-17 is apparently a viable handheld combo:
http://www.angelfire.com/ar/thecameranutjwb/
Also used by one of moderators at birdforum.net in situations where magnifications from his digiscoping setup not necessary.
Might well work with FZ1/2.
This combo gives some vignetting even at full zoom (and with Yoshida adaptor) using Panasonic FZ10; final dog picture on this page :

Thanks! I will have to quiz the MSGT Jimmie on lens stacking.
