I am noticing after 6 months of family portrait photography with my pan fz10, that i am not getting the same depth of field effect, as with my nikon 35mm at 2.8 aperture. The background is only moderately blurred.

using the blur feature in my ohoto brush editor does not take me far enough & CAN BE LABOROUS TO DO OVER & OVER.

ergo my question:

"any chance there is DEPTH OF FIELD FILTER WHICH BLURS PORTRAIT BACKGROUNDS

Hi Lou!

No full automatic software will give you a good result. You have to do some masking yourself. Lots of people confuse DOF (or lack of...)with a blurred background. This has nothing to do with it. DOF from a digicam comes in steps - the blur function in graphic editors does not!

If you are a user of Photoshop you can pick up the correct way of adding DOF (the dynamic way), which are shown at my website here:

A good portrait deserves a personal touch IMO. Be careful not "just" to run all your good portrait through some action or other automatic software.

Klaus
