Default candid horses

i take lots of pictures of horses, ive got a full page of my pics in this months equestrian life magazine, which im very happy about
most of the pictures i take at horse shows look like this

at the last show i tried taking some candid portraits instead of the usual action shots, personly i quite like them, i just wondered what anyone thought?

Any picture of a horse is a good picture!

Yours are very sharp and clear, nice shots.

Thanks

i use a nikon D90 with a nikon 70-300VR lens, i use Aperture priority and go as wide as possible, for moving shots i set up the auto iso with a min shutter speed of 350 but to not go over 1600 iso, but mostly the shows are around mid day so lights not normaly a problem.
i hand hold the camea and use auto continuous focus to track, i find if i get the focus point on the horses chest its pretty much bang on for a sharp shot.
