Epagneul Breton?

here is my try, i always try to put the image into different layers, then i use levels on fore and background, sharpen fore a bit, blur back a bit (for the portrait that is), and similar until it feels right - and still natural.
(ok, the masking i did is a bit clumpsy in this example)

now that Ive posted it, I realize that I should have used curves as I lost the definition in the eye.
