This is what happens to all scorpions when exposed to black light. My larger girl escaped the other day and the best way to find them is to turn the lights off in the house, walk around with a black light and watch them light up...

I just finished taking several photographs of them under this light, since the light does not belong to me.

The creature inphotograph is my Black Emperor Scorpion. This is the smaller of the two.

This is definately something you do not see everyday.

Steve

All I can say is wow. I've seen guys on Animal Planet that use battery powered black lights to hunt scorpions. That's a great picture.

Hi Steve,

Nice picture. Did you find the larger girl? How large are these? The smaller one looks pretty large to me.Do they seekheat and have you ever been stung by one of your cute little Scorpions.

Never been stung, and actually they don't have a tendency to use their stinger. They're primary defence are their claws, which pinch and cruch their prey.

I found my large girl, but I think she's wounded. I'm going to photograph her beside the smaller one so you can see the size difference.

And yes, they need to be kept warm.

Steve,

One more question, do they lose their stinger when they use it?

Nope. Nothing like a bee or anything. They always retain their stinger.

Here are my two emperors. Just to show the size difference.

The larger of the two escaped, and was wounded in the process. If you look closely, you can see a bulg on the membrane just below the upper plates, by the back leg.
