My son recently did work experience at a vet surgery. Onhis second day an ambulance officer brought in a tiny kitten he had found hiding in a drain. It appeared to have been attacked by another animal (dog, fox ?) and had been reasonably badly injured. They vet was going to put him down, but seeing my son's distress, they decided to see what could be done. Well, after a couple of operations, we are now the owners of "Manny" (thanks to the vet for doing it all for free)

Hi Aussie Dave,

I just had to chime in here. If my guess is right YOU have become the proudPOSSESSION of a Maine Coon Cat. If you do a google on Maine Coon, you will find they are a large breed, longer bodied and longer tailed than normal, long tufted ear hair. They grow up to be quite precocious, and playful and kittylike, which is a good thing because a fully mature male tops out at about 20 pounds, (is that 9 kilograms?)

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

and regards,

Maw

I recently lost a Maine Coon (to coyotes:sad and I'll definitely be getting another one. They're a wonderful breed. Lots of personality and very loyal. Mine would follow me on walks around the block and was always bringing me presents, like humming birds, towhees, various rodents, ducklings, & even a bat. My next one is not going to be an outdoor cat though.

Hey Bronc,

sorry to hear about your loss. I found this flickr site on maine coon cats and got lost for the better half of a day looking at their photos.

Definitely a wonderful, unusual cat. If and when I can get a pet it will definitely be a maine coon.

Best regards,

Bev
