I am glad to have inspired you. The shot I took had me laying on the ground so the horizon line was low in the picture which allowed the subjects to take up more of the sky. However, there is one draw back with crouching low with horses or cows is that they view you as a "predator" so you may want to take caution.

Good attempt on your part. Try it again with your horse on top of a hill with lots of sky in the background.

What settings and equipment did you shoot that picture?

Thanks. I am going to give it another try, just have a hard time getting up early enough.. Our pasture has woods covering the west, so a sunset pic wont work as well. Getting down lower sounds good, my biggest problem is Amos wants to come and lick the lens. He loves it when I have my camera out. Will try again soon though.

I am using a Canon 30D. That was my 17-40 lens, but I think I will try my 70-200 next time.

F / 4.5

ISO 400

1/6400

Aperature priority. I guess I could have dropped to ISO 100 huh?

Yes, drop the ISO's to 100, adjust your exposure bar to -1 or so and change your f stop from 4.5 to around 7. This will allow you to work with the sun a little higher in the morning but keep the objects you want dark to stay dark and sharp.
